A local Austin community business provides fresh produce and jobs for youth
Rodney Williams, our director of entrepreneurship and economic development, spoke to Chicago Citizen about the incredible story behind Austin Harvest. When our kids were confronted with the social injustices of 2020, they joined together to launch the fresh market on Laramie Ave., filling a critical gap in the community and helping restore pride in their neighborhood. Two years later, Austin Harvest continues to thrive, making fresh produce and flowers available at cost to the community while teaching students valuable lessons in entrepreneurship and community development.
