By The Hand students open Chicago’s only youth-led container farm, bringing fresh produce to under-resourced community
In March, 13 of our students in Altgeld-Murray cut the ribbon and celebrated the first harvest at Chicago’s only youth-led container farm! Bowen Harvest is a hub for youth entrepreneurship, nutrition education and community nourishment located in the heart of Altgeld Gardens, where the nearest grocery store is more than four miles away. At Bowen Harvest, students will grow more than one ton of fresh, nutrient dense produce annually inside the 500-square-foot farm, learning valuable lessons in entrepreneurship while feeding their community. Thank you to WGN Chicago for helping us celebrate this wonderful, life-giving initiative!
