Fourth Grade—Englewood

Lenard, a fourth-grader at Englewood, is making impressive strides. When he started at By The Hand Club, he connected to the people. Ms. Peace, a By The Hand SEL Specialist, has had a big influence on him through regular meetings and steady involvement in his life. He says, “Ms. Peace helps me with my emotions and how to control myself. I used to take my anger out on other people. But she’s helping me learn how to calm down.” Lenard is practicing new skills to cope with hard feelings; skills that will keep him safe, healthy and appropriate. “I can walk, breathe, put my hand over my mouth, and find a safe space for my feelings.” Lenard also discovered that, “God helps me a lot. He’s with me all the time. He helps me hold back and gives me what I need.”
